Margaret Canca is a pan-Africanist at heart, whose rich professional background has seen her work in the tourism, financial, government and non-governmental sectors.
She has worked for and with the African Union (AU) since 2015, including its participation in the quinquennial World Expo. She was also the project director for the inaugural Intra-African Trade Fair in Cairo in 2018.
As the chief fundraising officer of the AU Foundation, Ms Canca drove the African Economic Platform, a programme that brought together African heads of state, business leaders, academics and the youth for frank deliberations on Africa’s development.
Ms Canca is part of an initiative started by South African Tourism called the Global Advocacy Programme, which promotes collaboration between strategic partners, policymakers and influential voices in the global tourism sector to remove barriers and create a positive narrative about South Africa.
She is currently the head of partnerships and resource mobilisation at the Cairo-based Africa Business Council. Closer to home, in South Africa she is a member of the secretariat for the Women Economic Assembly, a presidential multi-stakeholder initiative to advance women’s economic empowerment and financial inclusion.
